introduction to Mystery of the Mind

*whew* finally I get a moment to write briefly about what this class was like.

This class has around 600 students! This is a combination of in class and those that can relax at home and watch online or on tv through Rogers

If you have Rogers and wish to check out the class comes on Thursday nights from 9 to midnight.

Jim Davies my instructor is totally energetic for 8:35 in the morning. He must have some serious caffeine before getting to class. Ugh mornings how horrid! But it’s to ally a good thing that he’s energetic otherwise I definitely would not be able to make it through being alert at such a god awful hour and having to concentrate on school stuff!

We do have an assigned reading to do and here is where I could use the help of all my book lovers out there. All of the sources I check do not have any of these books in audio format, *grumbles* and if you can find a source for me I’d be ever so grateful!

book listings:
1. What a Plant Knows: A Field Guide to the Senses by Daniel Chamovitz
2. The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat by Oliver Sacks
3. Riveted: The Science of Why Jokes Make Us Laugh, Movies Make Us Cry, and Religion Makes Us Feel One with the Universe by Jim Davies
4. The Willpower Instinct: How Self-Control Works, Why It Matters, and What You Can Do to Get More of It by Kelly McGonigal
5. The Robots Rebellion by Keith Stanovich

The one I really want to read cause it sounds more interesting is, “What A Plant Knows.” Again if someone can find that one in audio format for me that would be awesome! If one can’t be found it is ok since I did speak to Jim about it and was given a different book not listed, but I’d really like to try for “What A plant Knows.” Otherwise the curiosity will kill the cat.

We are we assigned one of these lovely books to read? Well, sadly not just for the fun of it, *sighs* No, we have to write an essay, bleh! The essay is worth 15% of our grade, *groans*

The rest of the marks come from multiple choice test and we have 3 of them.

1. end of September
2. beginning of November
3. the final in December

Now one cool thing for those that go to class or watch it in real time is you get to participate in the polls that he throws out. jim actually encourages you to “bring” your cell phones to class. Just make sure to put them on silent, *smiles* Sadly when I go get my puppy I’ll miss out on that part..ah well! Always October!

Thursdays class poll had to do with what video the class wanted to watch.

*chuckles*
The vote was;
The Language of Swearing!

So that was Thursday. Tuesday we talk about Learning, Memory and Representation, so see you then!

  1. lol, went back to look at your first message closer, what’s RFBD? I’m only assuming you meant RNIB, but maybe that’s one I don’t know about?

  2. RNIB, hmm, I didn’t think of checking them. They just might, but I think you have to have an account with them or something. Will have to check that out.

  3. and I don’t mean sit oon your tushy and wait for you to mail you a giant padded bag o garbage CD’s, I mean online digital download it onto your computer right now form.

  4. I’ve always wanted to read the wife/hat one. Prosopagnosia is just messed the hell up. Does RFBD, um, Learning Ally have any of these? Even if you have to get them in stupid non-daisy format? Do they even ship to Canada anymore? Oh, wife/hat is on cnib library in audio form.

I look forward to your comment. Please keep it respectful!
