Welcome to week 14! The week of the stubborn, active kicking lemon! There’s quite a bit to share so beware the long post, smiles.
sugar test
Last time I mentioned that I had to have the horrible sugar test. Well, all is well there. No bad sugar things to worry about. But, it, happened, to, me, again! I got the darn annoying orange kind! I swear it’s a conspiracy to give me nothing but the orange whenever I’m pregnant, lol.
NIPT (noninvasive prenatal testing vs. amniocentesis
At my doctors visit last month I was asked if I wanted to have the amniocentesis test done. This test is for those that are high-risk or over a certain age and so on. The amniocentesis checks for things like if your child will have chromosomal disorders, such as, trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), and trisomy 13. With the amniocentesis they stick a *needle* in your belly and draw out a little amniotic fluid. The procedure takes 45 minutes to do. The huge downside to this is the risk of a miscarriage and because of that I am dead set against this procedure. Also, with the amniocentesis it is not done until after week 14. On rare occasions will it be done around week 11. The one huge good thing about this test is that it is also one way to find out the sex of your child through DNA. But I’m sorry with this method the risk outlays the benefit!
Now, much to my surprise I found out about another test that checks for the same things with *no* risk involved to mom or baby called Noninvasive prenatal testing. This also includes letting you know the sex of your baby through DNA. All they do with this is steal your blood…the vampires! Unlike the amniocentesis there is no needle poking you in the belly. You go to a lab and hand over your arm. *poke* thanks, now wait for your result! The NIPT can be done as early as week 9 of pregnancy. A lot sooner than the amnio and again, *no* risk involved! Just a lot of waiting, smiles.
Now, the reason I brought up all that medical stuff is this. I went with the NIPT and *boy* was that a chore! One thing after another happened to delay getting the blood sucking done.
1. My really special awesome driver got sick due to those annoying paint fumes! So had to wait.
2. Found out that the lab we were told that did the testing really didn’t do that particular test, grrrrr! But they were nice and ordered it so we were going to try the next day. *wrong*
3. My poor awesome drivers truck broke! *cries*
4. We’re now at Thursday a week and a couple days after we started this the first time, lol. We show up at the lab and guess what? The darn lab person says, “sorry we close at noon!” Um WTF? It wasn’t even noon yet and why in the world didn’t you give us this info on Tuesday when we were there the first time? *headdesk*
5. It’s now Friday and this test will get done or else! By now I think baby J is working against me here and *does not* want us to know what it is, but I will win I tell you! Anyways, we get there waaaaaaaaay before noon and *poke* there goes my blood! Ha, sorry baby J, lost that round. I will find out what you are now!
Sadly after all that we are at the waiting stage to see what we are having. Wait wait wait! I hate waiting!
to hear or not to hear
OMG, today we found out that this little baby is soooooooo stubborn. We could only get sneak peeks at the baby’s heartbeat. Baby J was like, “um no, you can’t hear that. I’m busy!” we’d get to hear a couple heartbeats and then J would move. We’d find it again and *poof* off the baby goes again! Now you hear me, now you don’t. lol. It took a little while, but we at least got to know that the heart rate is at 164. The nurse says we’re having a girl due to that info, but we shall soon find out!
whew, that’s some strong kicks
Now, while we were trying to catch this little lemons heartbeat and having absolutely no luck what so ever we get the pleasant sounds of baby J showing what he/she thought by kicking the machine, hahahahah! The first 2 kicks were nice and gentle, but when it was discovered that we still wanted that awesome heartbeat sound baby J got mad and started kicking harder. *whoops* Think we’re all done now, lol. I think daddy and I are in some serious trouble if we’re getting kicks this hard at only 14 weeks. *run*
weight game
Now don’t forget we have a weight game going as well. How much will I be at the end of this pregnancy? The current guesses are
1. 170
2. 185
3. 190-95
4. 183
I’ll tell you now that the person that went for 170 will lose. I’m now sitting at 163 and it’s just the beginning of March, lol. Hell at this rate I’ll lose and I said 185 hahaha. So, what’s your guess?
eviction date
And last on this update is the eviction date! Unless something seriously goes wrong or my doctor has to go to the moon or something baby J will enter the world on August 24th. The eviction noticed has been signed! lol.
See you on the next update. Better stay tuned because that will be the revealing one, is baby J a boy or girl!
