LD Training4 Dog Issue Day for Leader Dog Class 26-02

Yayayay, the day is finally here! It’s dog issue day, where’s my dog? Lets go, lets go, lets go!

There is a video in the entry for meeting my awesome new pal.

Whew, sleep was a thing that was hit and miss. When I went to sleep it was ok, but then I’d wake up, check the time and growl, lol. It was the longest night of my life. I definitely ended up awake long before my alarm went off.

So the dogs now for those Leader Dog old timers like myself is issued on Wednesday mornings now. You must make it through breakfast and then, then they make you go through a lecture. cries Why not lecture time the night before, huh, huh, huh? grumbles

Really the lecture is a good one. It is the Dogs point of View lecture. That lecture takes you through what the puppy has been through from the moment it’s born until we get them. We were done with the lecture a little past 9AM, which also works since the dogs don’t come over the our building until that time.

The moment is finally here!!!

Where’s my dog?
Lets meet him shall we?

This was a whole lot of fun and awesome to see how close people actually came and even got some answers correct this round!

All about Monte

Monte is an awesome boy. He is very very attached to Stephanie so I have a little work cut out for me, but it’s all good. That just means that whenever he falls in love with me that I’ll have a pal for life that loves me too.

Monte absolutely loves to play ball. Whenever we come back into the room the first thing he goes for is his ball. So, I think I’m going to have to find more balls for him and hopefuly find out what else he likes.

Amusing thing about Monte is that he loves his belly rubbed or scratched. He will put his paws up in the air and stare at you and if you’re taking too long, he’ll then huff at you, like, excuse me, get a move on here. I need a belly rub! lol.

First walk with Monte

The first walk with him was great. I was a little nervous because it has been almost 2 years since I’ve walked with a dog, but we were great out there. Marty does an awesome job at finding doors and stopping at curbs and all of those important things. We even had an accidental distraction moment, lol.

Right after we got outside and turned left I managed to key a pine cone. I kicked it, it bounced off Monte’s foot and rolled down the sidewalk, lol. Monte didn’t even pay attention to it. What a great boy.

Now saying that. Monte is also my sneaky boy. He very carefully tried to sneak over to wear his brother was that was way off to the right of us. Whooops, yeah, busted! He caused me to stewp in the grass and that plan failed. No go, try again!

Monte does great at changing speeds. I got to try this out on the practice route because we go up and up and up a nice hill. Erm, I don’t advise doing this hill when you are still hal asleep. It’s got the workout getting up the thing! Yeah, I told Monte he’d have to pull me up it, lol.

Then, we went flying down the other side, wheeeeeeee! Boy can this boy move! Again, highly not advise to run while half asleep, thinking and making choices is still a thing while you’re flying down the sidewalk, ha!

During our small run I did engage brain and tell Monte to slow down and get back to a normal for me pace and he did the switch over with no problem at all.

Here’s where Monte gets revenge

We get to the end of the downhill run and there’s his brother at the curb. Whoops, caught up to them after all. So we wait our turn to cross and let them get further ahead again.

Ok, now our turn.

Me, Monte, right
Monte, wheeeeee, jumps and pulls off to the right
Me, eeeeeeeppppp, and nearly takes a dive. Whew, what a trip, but erm, lets do that over again!

Second time around was a much better showing, lol.

Definitely interested to see what tomorrow will bring. The first full day with my new pal Monte is now over and I will find out at breakfast if he still thinks I’m somewhat ok or if he’s like, no no no, give me back my Stephanie.

Until next entry!

I look forward to your comment. Please keep it respectful!
