Whew, it finally caught up with me like I knew it would. All these awesome delicious sweet things that I shouldn’t be having too much of and just can’t resist has finally did me in. Enough is enough shouts my head!
This morning I knew I was in trouble when my head screamed at me at the horrible God awful hour of 3 in the morning. But, that’s what I get for having waaaaaay too much sugar. My head said enough is enough and I had to take this morning off. It was time for a super dose of my headache medicine and sleep. Of course, my bad luck it’s on a day that they are doing country work or as some may call it, sidewalkless travel.
Warning! As all people know that are going for guide dog training all the schools try and kill you with their awesome great tasting foods that you just can’t say no too. Leader is definitely no exception to this. Even with your special diets, there are times you just have to have that really good tasting meal or that awesome dessert. No pressure, nope, none at all, lol.
So, after that great nap I was ready to go for the afternoon run. My head still hurt a little, but at least I could concentrate.
Monte does really well with country travel. He keeps very close to the grass line and does really well at taking me around even pot holes. Some of them he stops at. Again, I have to beware of him stopping. If I’m half asleep I may end up face planting into whatever may be in front of us if not the ground itself, lol.
So during this walk he had 2 cars that he had to take me around. The first one he slammed on the breaks and once I gave him the command he went around it to the right and then back to the grassline that was over to the left. However, the second car he decided to take us around to the left of it. stephanie didn’t think we would fit, but once again Monte proved her wrong, lol. He hugged the grassline after showing me the car and got us past it with no problems. What a smart boy I have.
Monte the smart ass
So, only this route we also have a period where we could switch over to walking on the sidewalk and Monte and I did that. We started off with no sidewalk, then switched to sidewalk for a while and for the final leg we switched back to no sidewalks and here’s what happened.
Monte and I approaches the curb.
Me, Monte forward.
Monte starts to cross the street and stephanie chuckles and tells me to stop him.
Stephanie, Monte has taken you to the up curb which leads to another sidewalk. Tell him right so that we can go back to no sidewalks.
Me, ok, no problem. Monte right.
Monte, doesn’t move.
Me, Monte, right.
Stephanie chuckles. He’s looking at the sidewalk and then where we want him to go and then back at the sidewalk. Like, um, no, we want the sidewalk.
Me, ok Monte, yes, that’s the sidewalk, but we aren’t going there. Right.
Huffs and snorts goes Monte and finally moves over to the street and along the grassline.
Me, good boy
Monte, huff!
Ha, how I love this smart ass dog of mine!
See you at next entry. Have an awesome day.
